At the meeting of the Georgia-EU Council in Brussels the European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle said that by accepting European values, Georgia proved that the country is a partner of the EU.
“We have made progress on issues related to political association, visa dialogue and economic integration. We want to continue the integration process with the acceptance of our values; Georgia has proven itself to be a partner. It is necessary to assess the readiness of the new government to continue the cooperation process,” Füle said.
According to him, in recent years, Georgia and the European Union have made considerable progress in political cooperation in the sphere of economic integration.
“We have already gone through several rounds of negotiations on the association agreement. We want to further develop this process of integration under the guarantee that Georgia will be a reliable partner and that it will follow European values and standards.” Füle said.
The source reports that the meeting focused on the summit of Eastern Partnership which will be held in Vilnius next year.
“We will have a very busy schedule, but presumably tangible progress will be made in relations between Georgia and the EU by this important date. The initiative of Georgia to hold the informal summit of the Eastern Partnership in Tbilisi next year was another issue that we discussed today.” Füle said, noting that the European Union will allocate additional 22 million euros to Georgia.
