Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused Washington of sending “contradictory messages” that he said were complicating the negotiation process.
Speaking on Iranian state television IRIB, the minister stressed that Tehran was not responsible for the disruptions to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, insisting that Iran had not started the war and was only defending itself.
Araghchi reiterated Iran’s position that the strait is open to ships of “friendly countries” if they coordinate their movements with the Iranian side.
At the same time, he stressed that the waterway will remain closed to Iran’s “enemies.”
