Georgian media reports that speaker of country’s Parliament David Usupashvili urged law enforcement agencies to show more tact and discretion regarding deputies or senior politicians.
As reported, he announced the message to journalists after a meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Sweden and Bulgaria and the head of the Polish president’s office on Friday.
“We had a very friendly and warm meeting. We talked about the enhancement of relations and cooperation between our countries and discussed the current political situation. We also informed them about what is being done to enable parliament to become a strong institution. We have created all conditions for this, including the coalition majority” said Usupashvili, adding “However, in the minority there are people with rich experience in parliamentary and public activities. If they become more involved in parliament’s activity, we will be able to create the best parliament in the Georgian history, both in terms of quality and in the alignment of forces. The people chose us to move the country forward, not only to demand accountability for the past. So I do not rule out that the investigation of particular issues may lead us to certain high ranking officials and it should not be automatically considered as political persecution. When it comes to members of Parliament, or high-level policymakers, the law enforcement agencies have to exercise the utmost discretion and caution. Otherwise, it will cause unreasonable upset which is not in the interests of the country”
