Georgian media reports that country’s president Mikheil Saakashvili, during an International Conference held in Poland, announced ” Georgia will never come back under Russian influence.”
“Our nation have tasted success, democracy, the power shift by democratic ways and this is something which means a European start for Georgia” Saakashvilli explained his position in relation to Russia.
“From such kind of development our nation will not give up, our policy is a long-term development, peace and opportunity for every resident of the region,” said Saakashvili.
At the same time, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Diaspora and Caucasus issues Gubaz Sanikidze, said that the new government of Georgia will make adjustments to Tbilisi’s policy towards the Caucasus: “The Caucasus will not be a single state, it is clear to everyone, but conditionally Caucasian “house” as a historical and cultural unit must be joined.” said Sanikidze adding “In this respect, Georgia should be the initiator”.
Note, it was announced this week that Tbilisi is ready for dialogue with Moscow, despite the radically different positions.
