In the near future all the Armenian political prisoners in Georgia will be released, except Vahagn Chakhalyan. “First News and Analyses” was informed about this by the leader of “Multinational Georgia” social movement Arnold Stepanyan, who spoke about the question of Armenian political prisoners in Georgia. He noted that there is a list of the prisoners, whom Georgian leadership will honor its forgiveness in the near future. According to A. Stepanyan, all the Armenian political prisoners are included in the list, except Chakhalyan.
“Chakhalyan has quite heavy charges for prison terms, and seems to have no supporters. We know that according to the conclusions of a number of international organizations, he is a political prisoner, and if they do not involve him in the list, it means that Chakhalyan is not only a political prisoner of Saakashvili’s regime, but of the Georgian country. If the new authorities do not grant him a pardon, it means that there are very serious problems, and I do not rule out the possibility that these problems will continue until the end of his prison term,” commented Arnold Stepanyan.
