Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, after the CIS summit yesterday in Ashgabat, gave an interview to Interfax news agency, in which spoke of the CIS and the EU integration processes of Armenia.
Nalbandian noted that Armenia will continue to take active efforts to strengthen international cooperation. “We intend to develop mutually beneficial cooperation with the Member States,” he said.
Speaking of post-Soviet territory and compatibility with the European integration process, and answering the reporter’s observation that they seem to be incompatible, the Minister said.”The logic of opposing, offer of “either-or” artificial dilemma is a past burden. We are in favor of the process of integration’s harmonization, and not in favor of opposing. ”
Nalbandian noted that in the CIS “Armenia is not only a founder, but also one of the most active members of the Commonwealth.” Moreover, he emphasized that Armenia was one of the first to ratify the agreement on the free trade zone within the CIS.
On the other hand, the minister said that Armenia is also developing quite successful relationship with the European Union.
“Armenia is conducting an open and predictable policy. We aim to further strengthen our partnership ties, as well as develop partnerships with those countries that are ready to develop cooperation based on mutual interests. Not controversies, but dialogue and cooperation between different integration structures can have an important contribution in the formation of a common space without dividing lines.” concluded the minister.
