Georgian media, citing the announcement of Georgian Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze, reports that Tbilisi does not set any preconditions for launching a dialogue with Russia in the new format.
“It will be unclear in the context of these negotiations if Russia urges us to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia within the preconditions,” said Abashidze, adding “Radical differences of course, are not the best background for starting up relations. However talks may be launched whilst resolving economic, cultural and other issues. We confirm that it is necessary to normalize relations with Russia. It is necessary to find a way out together with Russia.”
Note, military action was launched in the Georgian region of South Ossetia on August 8, 2008.
