Prime Minister of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan gave an interview to Interfax news agency, in which, among other issues, he spoke of sanctions against Iran and their influence on Armenia.
Prime Minister mainly noted that the international sanctions imposed against Iran make a blow on the economy of Armenia, because the latter has two accesses to the global market, through Georgia and Iran. International sanctions on Iran almost erase an opportunity to work with Iran, including performance of transit transportations.
“This creates serious problems for Armenia. Therefore, turnout through Iran and with Iran is not great, “said the Prime Minister.
Sargsyan said that there are problems in the Middle East during export, which reduces the chances for diversification. Establishing restrictions enforced by Iran, including foreign exchange operations, hinder relations between the two countries’ businesses.
Sargsyan announced that Armenia raised these issues in the European Union, during the negotiations on the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. “They all understand that it is seriously hurting our economy and not only our economy.” he said.
Speaking of Iran-Armenia railway construction and talks about oil, he said, the two sides signed agreements for these two important infrastructure projects, their implementation and the importance of mutual obligations. As for oil tanker, the Prime Minister said that the parties are working on the technical issues.
