“The so-called first period of Serzh Sargsyan’s presidency and Tigran Sargsyan’s primacy went on with the motto of fight against monopolies and oligopolies. But, of course as it happens in Armenia, life has shown the opposite of that motto.” Reporter of “First News and Analyses” Musa Mikaelyan touched upon the fight against monopolists initiated by RA president and example of the head of State Revenue Committee as an opposing example to this fight.
The author brings the example of the head of the State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan, who slowly occupies a leading position and is one of the largest business-owners in Armenia.
“Ucom company, which officially belongs to his son, but of course it is his company, after a short time started to gormandize companies of Internet services and cable television companies one after another. Now Ucom becomes a monopolist in this area and this is of course due to Gagik Khachatryan and his position. What’s the role the Prime Minister and Serzh Sargsyan’s struggle in his new status remains unrevealed”, notes Mikaelyan.
“Apparently they clear the field from monopolies and oligopolies for Gagik Khachatryan. Importing different kinds of food and sweets can be perceived as a small business for Khachaturian. This is a really small thing for a man, who bought Mozart chocolate factory in Austria for about 200 million Euros, which the Austrian diplomatic representation did not deny in Armenia. And he Gagik Khachatryan has not only stopped denying the fact of his monopolies, but even say in the media that it is done the way it should be.
After all this we should direct a question to the President, who is going to take the second term. How can there be a struggle against monopolies and oligopolies in the country, when new monopoly positions are being formed.”
