Armenia sings and has sung for ages from the bosom of her destructed history. That is why perhaps a wind instrument like duduk will make the sound only when one lets inner energy out and does it so that nothing else matters. Folk music does need a promotion for it is what has been made without political efforts which, in case intervening, would latently destroy everything, but has been scudding and swaying through the asperities of Armenian history as naturally as nature is. It is not history that creates figures, it is these figures that make the history go on. When Michael Stone heard Flora’s singing “Dle Yaman”, this American man who is most probably impossible to be surprised at anything, stuck mesmerized and came to his senses after sharing the world with the news that there are people who cure with their voice.
His sister was the first to believe him. The worldly known actress Sharon Stone who never stopped weeping throughout the whole concert of Flora Martisosyn held in the US and called her mom and asked her to hear that voice via phone will become a most devoted fan and a good friend of the Armenian folk music prophet. Michael Stone with Flora Martirosyan will be two of the numerous voices to cry out there was the Armenian Genocide in 1915 and make immense contributions to the arts and music fostering.
Flora Martirosyan’s death today put an end to her journey of making true music and sharing it. Journeys do end, but the pilgrims keep on their way anyhow. She will continue her most appreciated initiative of making the world slightly a better place.
