Lena Hakobyan who is an interpreter, guide and librarian in the blue mosque in Yerevan states they have a lot of visitors from different countries especially on spring and summer months. As the deputy president of the “cultural heritage organization” of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masud Alavian Sadr reports the blue mosque in Yerevan will be included in the list of the UNESCO cultural heritage. As the deputy president states, the agreement was reached when the Minister of Culture of Armenia Hasmik Poghosyan was visiting Tehran.
Yerevan blue mosque was built in the 18th century when Ali Khan of Yerevan built 9 mosques. After Turkmencha and Gyulistan treaties when the Eastern Armenia went under the Russian domain, only this one mosque was preserved. During the Soviet period the mosque was used as the Yerevan Museum of History. Iran reconstructed the building and it has been 21 years the Blue Mosque functions with all its rituals.
