Georgian authorities plan to release the political prisoners who are citizens of the Russian Federation. This will be one of the first steps from the part of Georgia towards normalizing relations with Russia. This was announced today during a teleconference with Moscow by the Chairman of “Free Georgia” party, the head of Tbilisi City Assembly faction Kakha Kukava.
“The new government of Georgia intends to release Russian political prisoners. There are three of them, “- he said.
In total, according to the National Statistics Service of Georgia at the end of March, there are 315 defendants and foreign prisoners, including 60 Russian citizens. On November 14 seven prisoners were released, among whom was a woman and two critically ill people.
A few days ago Ivanishvili expressed disappointment on Moscow’s reaction to the steps of the government of Georgia to normalize relations between the two countries. Leader of the “Georgian Dream” appointed Zurab Abashidze special representative for relations with Russia, but there was no adequate reaction from Russia.
