“In connection with the recent arrests, I had a critical conversation with Mr. Gordon,” said the Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili after a meeting with the U.S. State Secretary.
According to him, the concerns of the West is understandable, although the government is trying to explain to the most friendly countries the democratic process of it and to convince them that justice would not be selective.
“I once again thanked that country. However, we had a critical conversation. We noted as a positive development the peaceful transfer of power, while at the same time, Europe, the U.S. and the international community are willing to make the process of arrests as transparent as possible. I share their concern – when there is a new government and such kind of arrests begin, there are many questions, especially from democratic countries, who are not used to the arrests of members of the old government by the new one. From this point of view, their concern is quite understandable. We tried and we will try in the future to explain to the friendly countries that our actions are democratic and there is no political persecution and selective justice. In this regard, we have saved the face of the country.” – said Ivanishvili.
