Analyst Aram Amatuni in his article in the “First News and Analyses” referred to the latest announcement issued by the second president of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan. In his article he particularly stated:
“Armenian Second president Robert Kocharyan’s speech gave a great liveliness to Armenian political life. It should be mentioned that Kocharyan chose a very interesting time period to make the speech. First of all Serzh Sargsyan wasn’t in Armenia and will return only after a week. At the same time Kocharyan expresses his thoughts when PAP starts negotiations with ANC, ARF and “Heritage”, so it means that there might be a strong opposition, in this context.
Right at that time Kocharyan draws all the attentions to him, noting that he is still here and he is an important political figure. Maybe Sargsyan made Kocharyan make such a step, through Sharmazarov. Recall that Eduard Sharmazanov, Republican MP, announced that the idea of changing governmental system doesn’t belong to PAP but a person, who is in a “mask”, and it was obviously addressed to Kocharyan, so the latter responded. The most important thing is that Kocharyan does everything possible in order not to be blamed. Even after March 1st events he put the blame on the government but not on him. Here a question rises; who was the government under his rule? Of course it belonged to Kocharyan, but he tries to avoid all such situations. All Kocharyan needs to do for now, is to wait for the response from the government, but it should be mentioned that everything is going according to Kocharyan’s plan, and from now on, whenever he will make a speech, the opposition will support him. ”
