It turns out that Armenian government pays its foreign debts via poor people since the minimum wage was only increased by 2500 AMD and the pensions weren’t increased at all.
Republican MP Hakob Hakobyan, during the NA session on “2013 State Budget” announced that in 2013 Armenia is going to pay its foreign debts and the most portion of the budget will go there.
We should recall that before the last presidential elections Serzh Sargsyan promised that he would increase the minimum wage but he didn’t keep his promise. In order to get the answers our journalist interviewed Hakobyan and asked to comment on the situation.
According to MP the increase didn’t happen because of the crisis.
“If there was no crisis our president could have increased the minimum wage. What concerns the statement that the poor pay Armenia’s foreign, I should stress that there is nothing like that. We have debts and must pay it. If we didn’t decide to pay 11 billion AMD from state budget to our foreign debts it would have been disastrous for our country. We have taken the money and should return, and without borrowing it is impossible to live, we must take the money, use it appropriately and take the income out of, paying the debt. This process is usual for developing countries which doesn’t have many natural resources” said Hakobyan adding “You shouldn’t think that this money is paid via poor people. Everybody must participate in it, since everything is done for our nation, to develop it.”
All we can say is that our poor society didn’t even see that money or used it in order to pay debts. The money was for certain businessmen, so only they had to pay it but not the poor society.
