Zurab Abashidze, former Georgian ambassador to Russia and special representative of PM Ivanishvili in the Russia-Georgia relations, gave an interview to German Deutsche Welle News Agency and talked about Russia-Georgia relations and future actions.
According to Abashidze, Georgia waits for the appropriate response from Russian side.
“We want to establish straight negotiations with Russia but everything depends on their reaction. I should recall that we have no diplomatic ties with Russia after 2008, when they recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states. We know that it will be hard to make negotiations and give a solution to the situation, but we will do everything possible for it. Some day the conflict and the “cold war” must be over and hopefully it will be soon. We do understand that it will be very hard to reach a level when we can freely negotiate with Russia, but it is necessary and should happen. ” said Abashidze.
