The letter of Foreign Minister of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Karen Mirzoyan is circulating in the United Nations Organization as a document of the UN General Assembly and Security Council.
The letter says that Azerbaijan started a false campaign for the reopening of the airport in Stepanakert, intending to misinform the international communities and justify Azerbaijani policy of use of force or threat of force towards the people of Nagorno Karabakh.
Reopening of Stepanakert airport is the sovereign right of the NKR and pursues exclusively civilian and humanitarian goals. Azerbaijan’s continuous blockades become a serious obstacle to the freedom of movement for the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. That policy of Azerbaijan clearly shows obvious contempt for human rights and fundamental freedoms of people. The threats to destroy civil airplanes contradict the international Covenant on Civil Aviation.
NKR Minister of Foreign Affairs requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the United Nations Organization and its specialized agencies, as well as all the peace-keeping member states to support in the issue of Stepanakert airport’s reopening, so that Nagorno-Karabakh’s people to be able to realize their fundamental rights and freedoms.
