In case of detecting expired food, it is immediately destroyed. This was reported by RA spokesman of “Food Security” in Ministry of Agriculture Babken Pipoyan.
“The service has imported a new tool that allows checking the qualitative features and terms of food right at the place of sale, and if violations are found, they are subject to destruction,” said Babken Pipoyan.
But there are expired food types, which are not a subject to destruction, but a suspension of use.
Head of “Armenia’s national consumer association” Melita Hakobyan told reporters that they often organize checks themselves not only in Yerevan, but also in the provinces.
“If we find expired food we immediately remove it from the store and do not allow selling it. There were cases, when we had broken yogurts right there so that we could see that it is eliminated,” she said.
She did not exclude the fact that if they did not discover and immediately destroy expired food, it is possible that it would be sold out again.
According to the results, announced by “Food security” more than expired food can cause 200 spread of diseases. Expired food found in Yerevan was mainly in meat, eggs, dairy products and confectionery.
