The former president of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan’s family in 2010 sued “Zhamanak” newspaper which had published materials on Bella Kocharyan and her son Sedrak Kocharyan activities and demanded 6 million compensation.
As a result, the court had defined a 3-million-drams compensation to the Kocharyans which “Zhamanak” paid. The Kocharyans stated the money they got as a compensation will go to an orphanage. Throughout the previous week the First News and Analyses has been trying to find out the orphanage Kocharyans were supposed to give the money to. As a result of the inquiries in major orphanages of Armenia, it turned out none of them received the sum. This means the Kocharyans have lied to the orphanages and the explanation to this might be either the fact that they donated the money but those engaged in the business pouched it or they have not send the money but used it by themselves.
Recently Kocharyan’s name circulates among the political process of the country as the latter approaches the presidential elections. First the ANC coordinator Levon Zurabyan stated that Serzh Sargsyan, in case re-elected, will do his best to eliminate Tsarukyan and Kocharyan. Another time Kocharyan’s arrival with the Speaker of the NA Hovik Abrahamyan from the Czech Republic became the matter of political concern. No clarification has been given from the head of Kocharyan’s office Victor Soghomonyan.
