On October 29 National Assembly standing committee on human rights protection and societal issues passed hearings to revise the RA law on the amendments in the family statute book of the RA. According to this plan the age differentiation between males and females for marriage is withdrawn with the lowest age threshold for both sexes becoming 18.
Margarit Esayan – the deputy to the president of of the standing committee of the NA stated there having been a wave of contradictions among the ethnic minorities in the country dealing with this issue. “These contradictions fostered a necessity to revise the bill dealing with the amendment in the family statute book of the RA”, noted Esayan. Aram Orbelyan – the deputy to the Minister of Justice of the RA – clarified that passing of the bill first of all is a gender equality issue correcting now for the initial discrimination against women.
