Richard Kirakosyan, director of the Regional Studies center, today, October 29, had a press-conference and talked about the impact of American elections on Armenia and about the two presidential candidates of the U.S.
According to him, no matter who will be elected, the Armenian Genocide won’t be recognized by the U.S. since none of them promised that.
“I should stress that Armenian community in America is very angry with the candidates since none of them promised to do some steps concerning the recognition of Armenian Genocide” said Kirakosyan.
One of the journalists asked Kirakosyan about the candidate the Armenian diaspora in the states will support.
Kirakosyan said that he doesn’t know who will support our community but he expressed his own thoughts concerning the issue:
“According to me our community will support Obama, and he will be elected. I think that it will be better for Armenia. I will tell you why. Romney doesn’t know about our region as much as Obama, and it seems that Romney is not going to actively be involved in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Secondly I should stress that Romney “hates” Russia and because of it a serious problem may occur in the region. The same thing is with Iran; Romney doesn’t want to negotiate, but Obama promised that he would continue the negotiations after the elections. What concerns Armenia-US relations in general, I can say that nothing seriously will be changed, since we have deep relations with them. US-Azerbaijan relations will also remain at the same level since no matter who will be the president of US; they are interested in Azerbaijan’s oil. ”
