Our News Agency today interviewed Manvel Sargsyan, Director of the Armenian Center of Strategic and National Studies and the main aim of the discussion was to know the political situation in NKR, since Vitali Balasnyan, created a “Constitutional Artsakh” civil movement and wants to go against Bako Sahakyan and his government.
According to Sargsyan, the movement is very important since without it the people of Artsakh were kind of disappointed since there wasn’t a real opposition in NKR and it seemed that the current authorities would always rule the country.
“I should stress that due to some circumstances Armenia is not involved in NKR inner life as much as it used and ant must do it. Armenian media didn’t even cover NKR presidential elections the way they should maybe because there wasn’t any competition between the sides and it was obvious that Bako Sahakyan would be elected. This fact concerned me and the people of Artsakh were very disappointed because of it. However, a very honored and famous person, Vitali Balasnyan, created a” Constitutional Artsakh” civil movement and I think it was a very right decision. The best thing is that this movement doesn’t want to come to power, they want to have fair elections and they want people to know that there is an opposition which won’t let the government do whatever they want” said Sargsyan.
Our journalist asked Sargsyan to comment on the difference between political movement and civil movement and also to talk about Armenian opposition and their action back in 2008/
“I must say that there is a huge difference between these 2 movements. Like I mentioned above, the civil movement doesn’t come only for the power. Then the opposition consist only from political parties and their major aim is to be the power, they may not think of the nation and they may do everything just for the power, but the civil movement supports only people’s rights and choice. I’m sure that if in 2008 Armenian opposition was a civil movement, the mission wouldn’t have failed. I must also stress that if Artsakhian movement succeeds in NKR, it will certainly affect Armenia. Even when in Georgia the parliamentary elections were held and the government made that sudden decision it affected Armenian political field, so if the same thing happens in NKR , it will certainly effect Armenia”, said Sargsyan.
