“The US presidential elections to take place in two weeks seem to be important for Armenians in as much as Romney or Obama pronounce the word “genocide” or not. Even if they say, that wouldn’t mean that the US president loves Armenians or is concerned about “historic truth”. That will more mean that they have some problem with Turkey and generally Armenian Issue is a tool for them.”- writes “Aravot” in editorial adding.
“The issue of pronouncing or not pronouncing points that it’s already 150 years that we embrace romanticism. In reality the lives of Armenians are not dependent on the word “genocide” not matter who pronounces it. But it’s not equal for us who will become the US president, because it will impact on developments in the region and much will depend on Russia-USA relations. Romney has stricter position in foreign policy, namely in the debate with the former governor of Massachusetts he noted that Russia is his geopolitical rival. In reply Obama said that such an approach will mean to return to 80s. It is obvious that superpowers’ relations are decisive in the region. Thus, Obama’s victory is more favorable for us. Nobody can say that Romney’s criticism towards Putin non-democratic rule is honest. Saudi Arabia is even more non-democratic but nobody criticizes it.”
