Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Andrei Sorokin told reporters today that the parliamentary elections held in May compared to the previous elections were more democratic.
Reporters asked him whether violations recorded by the observers affected the outcome of a democratic election.
“It is an interesting to question, I should think over from which side it will be easier to answer,” said Mr. Sorokin.
After a few minutes of silence his counterpart, Deputy Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, William Henlon said, “There is serious progress in terms of democratic practices and conduct. The Voting Code has been developed, adopted, which proved to be very efficient. Of course, there were problems. In our opinion, the elections were technically well.”
Mr. Sorokin added a few words on vote bribes, particularly saying, “First and foremost, we are cooperating with the prosecution. Their statement clearly states that if a voter reports about the bribe offer, the applicant shall be exempt from liability, so a criminal case will be initiated. I want to say that we are dealing with different organizations. ”
