Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristrea prefers to refrain from comparing Armenian and Georgian elections. He said this today, on October 22, during a meeting with reporters. Note that this year Armenia and Georgia held parliamentary elections.
Ambassador Hristrea recalled that the EU High Commissioner for Foreign Policy, Catherine Ashton voiced the opinion that the European Union welcomed the results of the elections in Georgia. “But I will stay neutral and won’t make comparison. Each state should be assessed separately, taking into account the situation in that country, and the election obligations in terms of compliance with international standards, “said EU Ambassador.
Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, Ambassador Andrei Sorokin stressed that it is quite difficult to compare elections, and there are both positive and negative examples in here and there. “I think that neither the Georgian president, nor the candidate win or lose, only the constitution won. In terms of strengthening the constitutional basis elections in Georgia were successful, “said the ambassador.
