Candidate for Georgian Prime Minister, Bidzina Ivanishvi, had a press conference and said that Georgian regions and self-government bodies will have as many rights as they can master, but not to the detriment of national interests of Georgia.
As reported, the statement of Ivanishvilli was in connection with the President’s initiative to strengthen self-government bodies and transfer a number of rights to them.
Mikheil Saakashvili yesterday, October 21, at the first session of the parliament supported for empowerment of local self-government bodies and offered to ensure selectivity of heads of local authorities, self-government bodies, mayors and governors.
“We will give the regions and local authorities as much power as they can master, as our goal is to strengthen self-government bodies. However, it should not harm the public interest,” Ivanishvili said adding “however, the president has decided to take the initiative to “secure a democratic image for himself”.”
