Until November 7 the government of Armenia will present its objections on the country’s first president, ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s claim to the European Court of Human Rights. This was reported by the ECHR representative, Military Prosecutor of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan.
It should be noted that recently the media circulates the issue of presenting a claim to the European Court on tragic events on March 1, 2008 in Yerevan by the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosian.
But there have been a lot of comments, also the ones confidently denying the claim.
On May 15, the European Court of Human Rights recognized Levon Ter-Petrosian’s request as partly groundless. In particular, the first president insists that there have been different violations of rights.
According to Gevorg Kostanian, the court has determined that all these rights, except one, have not been violated, and Levon Ter-Petrosyan’s claims are groundless. “I want to underline the fact that home detention was not the Court’s assertion, otherwise it would have recognized it acceptable or unacceptable,” added the ECHR Armenia’s representative.
According to him, at the next stage the European Court can make 2 decisions, either the claims may be deemed unacceptable, or will either establish the fact of violation, or not.
