Pre-agreements on the visa regime between the EU and Armenia were signed in Brussels.
When they are finally signed and ratified, which is planned to be completed by 2013, the citizens of Armenia will get the European Union visas for a number of categories quite easy, at least, easier than at present.
If the elections are held with concussions, there is no doubt that the process of visa facilitation will be delayed. In other words, Armenia will have a real loss. Such losses are quite tactile. For example, because of the political situation Armenia was deprived of the “Millennium Challenge” program of the American corporation.
Due to the political situation free trade negotiation process between Armenia and the European Union was postponed, it has slowed down and the European Union has decided to wait for the presidential elections. The free trade agreement has a political and economic significance for Armenia to get out of the strategic domain of the Russian monopoly.
Thus, the integrity of losses that Armenia endures because of the political situation is quite obvious. The point is that despite Armenia’s encouraging statements, and the West does not believe in the power of Armenia, in Serzh Sargsyan. Otherwise there would be financial investments, as it has a great political significance. But the West is not doing any investments, which means that they do not trust Serzh Sargsyan, does not believe that the President will be the master of his declarations, and will fulfill his promises. They think that reforms in Armenia will continue to wear formal character and the Russian influence will increase in our country.
In this context, the agreement on the EU visa regime is, of course, a political support to Serzh Sargsyan, but that support for the current political context of loss and delay is very weak and insignificant.
Armenian power should be concerned and should be responsible for its actions to inspire confidence in the policy of the West in terms of perseverance and that confidence will become a source of investment. We have to understand what the West is saying and make real steps to improve the country, Armenia has received financial support necessary for the safety and independence, which will allow the country to be put out of the bog. Otherwise, Serzh Sargsyan shall prepare not a request for assistance, but a last farewell speech.
