Vice President of the RA National Assembly Edward Sharmazanov on October 18 in St. Petersburg has a meeting with the secretary general of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (IPA) Alexei Sergeev.
The NA press service reported that the two sides exchanged views on developments of the integration processes in the CIS further and other possible regional developments.
In this respect, the NA Vice President noted that Armenia is interested in the deepening of the integration process in the CIS and is actively involved in those projects.
Referring to regional stability and security Sharmazanov noted the current phase of the Karabakh conflict, stressing that a military solution to the conflict and Azerbaijan’s position is unacceptable and destructive. He added that the international community should not tolerate any provocation.
Sergeeve, in his turn, praised the work of the members of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly, expressing the hope that the effective interaction between them will continue.
Speaking about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council stressed that Russia, as an OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing country, supports a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
In conclusion, reference was made to the upcoming presidential elections in Armenia. Sharmazanov assured the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council that there will be democratic, fair and transparent elections in Armenia.
