On October 17 Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, during a working visit to Romania, where he took part in the 21th Congress of the European People’s Party, held a series of bilateral meetings.
According to the administration of the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and gave an estimate of past parliamentary elections in Georgia. Orban said that with the help of these elections Georgia reaffirmed democratic course.
“International observers have declared that Georgia held free and fair elections. Procedures meet international standards and requirements. In the end, it was the decision and the desire of the Georgian people. They chose a very difficult path. They wanted to continue the economic policies, being implemented by the previous government and, in our opinion, it was successful and right. In our assessment, it was a way that created a successful economy in the country, “- said Orban, and assured that Hungary stands for the Georgian people and remains its loyal friend.
It should be noted that Viktor Orban visited Georgia a few days before the elections, and even participated in campaign events, and opened Kutaisi airport together with Mikheil Saakashvili.
During his visit to Bucharest Saakashvili also met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso to discuss the issues of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Georgia.
