Eghizar Ayntaptsi’s article published on the “First Armenian News and Analysis” discusses Russia- Gagik Tsarukyan relations.
Russian ambassador didn’t accept Gagik Tsarukyan’s invitation to take part in the anniversary ceremony of his wine-cognac factory. Thus Russia takes a counter action against Tsarukyan’s meeting with John Heffern, writes the analyst.
“Can Gagik Tsarukyan suppose that Russia expresses dissatisfaction through this step. But there is a nuance here. There would be no complaint if Tsarukyan had negotiated with Russia before and after the meeting with Heffern. Russia may also be concerned that Tsarukyan didn’t share all the details of the meeting with Moscow.”
The analyst stresses that this fact pinpoints not so much Russia’s complaint, but more of Tsarukyan’s independence. “Thus Tsarukyan had dared to meet with US ambassador based on some secrecy. This may be a transparent hint for the USA that Tsarukyan’s inclination to Russia is exaggerated and he is quite ready for a pragmatic post in case of offers. Anyhow PAP may give some answer to Russia’s dissatisfaction.”
