The Azerbaijani leadership is not going to start a new war on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,- said the head of the Iranian analytical center “New Perspectives” Ghasem Moumeni to Zerkalo.az. According to him, Azerbaijan is not ready for war either in political or economic terms.
“There are a number of factors suggesting that Baku is not going to unleash a new war. Here is another problem – the Azerbaijani opposition seeks to achieve its objectives, and the bellicose statements of Baku are aimed at countering the opposition-leaning political forces, “- said Moumeni.
In addition, according to the source, Azerbaijan could be strong militarily and economically, but it lacks in social terms. The expert stressed that the growing volume of arms procurement by Azerbaijan says nothing, because “although Azerbaijan buys a lot of weapons, but neither Russia nor Europe nor the United States would allow him to use that weapons.”
As for Iran’s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the head of the “New Perspectives” emphasized that both Armenia and Azerbaijan are neighbors of Iran, who have a common interest in both countries. “Iran does not want a new war in the region. Moreover, the ideal option for Tehran is to achieve mutual understanding between Yerevan and Baku, “- summed up Moumeni.
