On October 2nd, 2012, the former FM of Armenia, member of “Prosperous Armenia” party Vartan Oskanian’s immunity was lifted, writes Iarex.ru agency.
This gave an opportunity to prosecution to include him in an affair on money-laundering. Vartan Oskanian was the president of “Civilitas” foundation, which was injected also by benevolent sources,- writes the agency.
The prosecution accuses Oskanian that he has spent 181 million dollars of the fund on his personal needs. It must be noted that the benefactor has no demand from Oskanian, whereas prosecution insists that it has an aim to protect the interests of “Civilitas” fund.
“Prosperous Armenia” party and Oskanian himself see a political pretext here.
Armenian presidential elections will take place in February, 2013. Some politicians already have an eye on the post. If the party decides, Vartan Oskanian is also ready to take the responsibility. The former president Robert Kocharyan has issued an announcement in Oskanian’s favor criticizing the incumbent legal services. It is not excluded that his participation in the elections will be counter action against the authorities, writes the agency.
