On October 13-14 in Kinshasa the summit of the International Organization of the Francophonie took place, where 77 members of the organization took part, the delegations of associated and monitor countries headed by PMs, FMs of the countries. Armenia was represented in the summit by RA FM Edward Nalbandyan.
The International Organization of the Francophonie’s summit was preceded by the assembly of FMs, who unanimously approved Armenia’s membership in summit. On October 13th the Francophone summit made an official decision on recognizing Armenia as a lawful member of FIO.
After the decision-making process, Edward Nalbandyan said in his speech. “It’s a great honor to be present at the 14th summit of Francophone, when Armenia becomes a lawful member of the International Organization of the Francophonie. I express our gratitude on the trust and our satisfaction on accepting Armenia in the big francophone family. We are proud that Armenian civilization, culture and language will find their place in the rich cultural and lingual francophone heritage. It is known that Armenia has special relations with France and Francophone countries. The destinies of our nations are connected on the grounds of peace, freedom, democracy and protection of human rights. As a lawful member Armenia is enabled to deepen and develop its relations with other member countries, to actively participate in Francophone affairs. Along with other members Armenia will take efforts to establish the role of the organization in international arena.”
