Mkrtich Minasyan, president of the Union of Architects, today had a press conference and talked about Armenian architectural advantages and disadvantages.
“The Greats of Armenia shouldn’t have been depicted by worthless sculptures. I criticize this action. They are our history, our pride and they are presented to the public in a ridiculous way. Especially the sculptures of Mher Mkrtchyan (honorable artist) and Yeghishe Charents (Famous Armenian writer) are presented to the public in a funny way. During one of the TV programs, one of the authors of the mentioned sculptures said that he has done it the way he was ordered. I can’t criticize the author for doing it, since he only does whatever he is told, but the ones who ordered it in that way made a wrong step. It is unacceptable to present the great names of our country in that way” said Mkrtchyan.
President of the Union of Architects also talked about the “Old Yerevan” project and here he was also disappointed.
According to him, it should have been a green place, where people could have a rest, but instead, modern buildings are being built there. However, in the end he said that there are some things which he appreciates.
He especially talked about the young people’s work on the walls of arched passages in Yerevan city, and according to him it is very beautiful.
