German radio station DW conducted an interview with former FM of Armenia Vartan Oskanian about the recent events.
Firstly he was asked why he calls what happened political persecution. “I have two reasons to name this as political persecution. First, it lacks any legal grounds. It is a private fund, which has received money from the private person. There is no protest either from donor, or foundation, because, in fact, the means are not lost. Second, the chronology of events is important. Charge is proposed for a case, which took place two years ago.
To the question what he intends to do, Oskanian said that he is not going to fight the legal field, as it is meaningless. “Of course, all this is not directed only against me, but also against my party, and mostly, against democracy in Armenia.” he added.
Oskanian, answering the last question how the instituted case against him will affect “Prosperous Armenia” Party in the future, said that it cannot have any effect. “This question will never become a subject of bargaining. The party has a great impact on Armenia, and no matter what, “Prosperous Armenia” will play a pivotal role in the upcoming presidential election.”
