ANC activist and political prisoner Tigran Arakelyan sent a letter from detention to the U.S. Ambassador John Hoferman. The letter specifically states:
“To the U.S. Ambassador John Hefern
From “Nubarashen” 012 cell convict Tigran Arakelyan
Mr. Ambassador, I have read your concern about the case of Deputy Vardan Oskanian. You actually were applied to express your position.
Mr. Ambassador, let me ask you a few questions.
1. Who asked you and whether I have a right and on behalf of my friends, sentenced to prison on the same turn and expect your position? Violence and false accusations have been made against us as a result we were sentenced to 2-6 years of imprisonment.
2. Mr. Ambassador, do not you think that it is bad for the U.S. and its reputation as a very selective interpretation in terms of justice and democracy not to comment and express any position on the famous trial?
3. Is not this verdict before the elections disturbing?
4. Mr. Ambassador, if you do not know the position to express because of a lack of information, I suggest you or your representative to meet me.”
