Early next week, the former U.S. Ambassador to Georgia John Bass will take a new senior position – the responsible post of Executive Secretary of the U.S. State Department.
Bass, who last month in Tbilisi was replaced by Richard Norlund, is a senior member of the Foreign Service and was ambassador in Georgia since 2009. Previous three years he was Director of the State Department Operations Center. One of the many duties of the Executive Secretary is to manage the crisis centers that appear in emergency situations, such as a wave of attacks on embassies in the Middle East last month. The office of the Executive Secretary is also engaged in the relationship between the State and the White House, National Security Council and other agencies at the ministerial level.
Bass succeeds Stephen Mull, who was appointed in September U.S. Ambassador to Poland.
