U.S. Ambassador John Heffern spread a video statement, in which he referred to the case of the former Foreign Minister MP Vardan Oskanian.
“Yesterday after the announcement of formally arraigning Mr. Oskanian, they appealed to me to submit the U.S. position.
In my opinion, this development is bad for Armenia in terms of justice and democracy. As I have already said, this case seems a selective application of the legislation of Armenia.
Moreover, it is troubling that these events are taking place right before the presidential elections.
We call on the authorities of Armenia to fulfill their commitments in a systematic, fair and transparent manner to ensure the rule of law, “said the ambassador.
