Calend.ru news agency reports that on October 9, 1829, the first attempt was made to climb Biblical mountain Ararat (5165 m.), which is now located in Turkish territory.
The first group of climbers who decided to climb the mountains was headed by 62 year-old Egor Ivanovivh Parrot, a Russian physicist. Among the climbers was 24 year-old Khachatur Abovyan, who was one of the great writers in Armenia’s literature.
