In the discussions about possible membership of Armenia in the European Union, representatives of the Armenian ruling circles repeat that the membership of Armenia in the structure does not exist yet, will not in any way hinder our country’s accession to the European integration, and to the relations with Western partners.
Our government leaders do not to think so from their own analysis, but because the Russians’ persuasions. Except Russians, for Armenia’s ruling elite, especially for Republicans in the beginning of this year, Europeans, in particular, the European National Party has become an authority. European National Party has become so famous for Republicans that at their congress the leader of that party Wilfred Martens sent a special message. The important thing is that Martens, in fact, is the “European chef” of the Republicans.
In fact, Armenia has not made any statement about NATO membership. But the Eurasian Union is perceived in Europe the same way as Russians perceive NATO. In this case, the problem is in the European approach, which can be generalized in relation to Armenia.
It is interesting, who our government will prefer in this case- EPP, which was presented before the parliamentary elections the Republican Party’s greatest achievement, or the Russians, with whom our authorities have organic affection and dependence. Naturally, the second option is more likely, even if RPA will be pushed out of EPP as a result.
