On October 5 RA Speaker of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan received delegation of “Switzerland-Armenia” Parliamentary Friendship Group of the lower chamber of parliament of the National Council of Switzerland, led by Dominique de Buman and Ueli Loyenberger.
Welcoming the guests in the National Assembly, Hovik Abrahamyan noted that in the framework of foreign policy, relations with Switzerland are very important for Armenia.
According to the NA Speaker a high-level political dialogue has formed between Armenia and Switzerland in recent years and cooperation on an unprecedented development is recorded, there is a mutual trust and understanding. The inter-active communications significantly contributed to it.
He thanked the delegation for visiting Nagorno-Karabakh.
Expressed his gratitude for the warm reception the Co-Chair of Switzerland-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Dominique de Buman and noted that Armenian-Swiss parliamentary traditions have good relations, visits are on a regular basis, and this is not their first visit to the RA National Assembly.
He referred to the pro-Armenian benefit activities of the Swiss parliament. Dominique de Buman also stressed the need for boosting bilateral economic ties and cooperation with international organizations. He said that the delegation was impressed by his visit to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Highly appreciating the democratic process in Armenia, he expressed his willingness to share the existing democratic practices of Switzerland.
The sides also touched upon the extradition of Safarov, saying that it is a threat to European values and the Armenian side expects the international community to take more active steps, to apply sanctions against the government of both Hungary and Azerbaijan.
Referring to the Armenian-Turkish relations, the leader of the Assembly recalled that the protocols signed in Zurich also require ratification by the parliaments. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that Armenia sees the solution of all regional problems through peaceful negotiations.
