Georgian media reports that Viktor Yushchenko, the former president of Ukraine, called parliamentary elections in Georgia held on October 1, the “victory of democracy”.
“What happened in Georgia, I think is the victory of democracy, although, there are a few points still left… responding or not to those points may influence the national policy: both internal and external”, said Yushchenko in Poltava, commenting Georgian parliamentary elections, in which previously ruling party of President Mikheil Saakashvili recognized the defeat and went into opposition.
He said that on October 5 he will negotiate with the winning and losing sides of Georgia. “Today I will be negotiating with them,” said the former president.
He expressed the hope that the results of the elections will not regress the development of democracy in Georgia.
