PACE’s definition of the term “political prisoner” aims to close ways to various speculations, said lawyer Haik Alumyan.
“When one person is arrested, who was a member of one of the parties, he immediately begins to say that political persecution is carried out against him. The majority of political prisoners do not fit in this definition; the more proper position for the behavior of speculations is the posture of political prisoners.” commented Haik Alumyan.
Recall that PACE defined the term of “political prisoner”, which should be taken into account in political processes by the Council of Europe. Political prisoners are people who are deprived of personal liberty, if imprisonment is imposed in case of violation of the basic rights set in the European Convention on Human Rights.
