Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has expressed gratitude to the people who actively took part in yesterday’s parliamentary elections.
“Although the election totals haven’t been completely counted yet, the elections were held democratically, as we promised,” the president noted on Monday evening.
As noted the head of the country Georgian Dream opposition party has won the proportional elections, United National Movement party the majority elections.
“The opposition has won the proportional elections in Tbilisi, and UNM has won them in the regions, but we are not going to divide the country, we are going to cooperate,” he stated.
Saakashvili added that despite the fact that the pre-election campaign was distressing, even ‘dirty’ at times, everything has to be forgotten. “We are ready for cooperation and work with new parliament,” he noted.
Saakashvili promised normal transfer of power to the new parliament.
