Starting from October 1, after the parliamentary elections, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili will stop being the sole leader at the country’s political arena. Such a point of view stated today, on September 26, the deputy director of the Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan.
“After the elections the primary position will have the opposition leader Bidzina Ivanishvili and incumbent Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili.”
According to Minasyan, Saakashvili is unlikely to be the de facto head, but will make a move to take an honorary position. “But if we talk about the parliamentary election, one should not rule out the possibility of delay, taking into account the tense situation,” said the expert. Note that the noise associated with Tbilisi Gldani prison violence has not yet settled down.
