Georgian media reports that Georgian Interior Ministry has issued the following statement on recent events in the country:
“Unfortunately the acts of violence occur more often. Individuals working with political parties were often involved. Despite the calm situation in the past, after the scandalous tortures in prison, the situation worsened. There were acts of aggression, intimidation, threats and in some cases violent actions. Threats and attacks on public officials and supporters of political parties were made. The police were obliged to respond when the physical safety of our citizens was at risk. No detention was politically motivated. It was a reaction to certain incidents. The police continue to protect the law”.
