Assistant of NATO General Secretary on operations Stephen Evans thanked the Georgian military for participation in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan.
According to the Georgian Ministry of Defense, on September 25 Evans visited the National Training Center “Krtsanisi” (near Tbilisi) and made a speech to the soldiers of the 42nd Battalion of the Fourth Infantry Brigade of the Georgian Armed Forces. This unit will take up peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan in the spring of 2013.
“I am proud of the meeting with the Georgian troops, who will perform a peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan since March 2013.”said NATO spokesman.
During the visit, Evans was accompanied by Defense Minister Dmitri Shashkin. Before that Shashkin took Evans in the Georgian Defense Ministry, and one of the main topics of discussion was Georgia’s participation in the ISAF mission.
During the visit, Evans also met with representatives of the Georgian authorities.I n Afghanistan, there are more than 900 Georgian troops. Since the beginning of the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan 17 Georgian military are killed.
