Georgian media reports that new Minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance, Irakli Tugushi, had a meeting with Mikheil Saakashvili at the presidential palace and familiarized the Georgian president with changes made to the prison system.
Tugushi outlined priority plans to reform the prison system. The sides discussed the possible introduction of alternative punishment which could replace arrests.
Saakashvili said that emphasis should be placed on the social rehabilitation of prisoners. He expressed satisfaction with the new minister’s actions.
