Head of the EU Office in Baku, Roland Kobia, told Azerbaijani media that the next round of negotiations on visa regime facilitation between the EU and Azerbaijan will take place very soon in Baku, probably on early November.
“The negotiations on visa facilitation regime between the EU and Azerbaijan are progressing,” said Kobia and added “we have had a few rounds of negotiations already. And we will continue to discuss both visa facilitation and readmission agreements.”
As reported, according to Kobia, if Azerbaijan wants to do everything that is needed to get this visa facilitation, it can be very quick.
Note, relations between the EU and Azerbaijan are being carried out under the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement which was signed in 1996 and came into force in 1999. In 2009, the Minister of Foreign Affairs for the EU Commission issued a mandate to start negotiations on the conclusion of bilateral association agreements of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia with the EU. These agreements will be a new practical instrument to replace the bilateral action plans.
